He, he. You'd be surprised how many times I have heard that. People have looked at one of my photo's and that is their instant response. I suppose they assume that if they bought the same camera, their results would equally be as good. Bless them!

                        Great shot Colin!
Who wouldn't want a shot like that in the portfolio?

There's some in my club that are quite vocal about Kingfisher shots like this, where a water tank is used. The issue they have is that there have been reports of too small a tank being used, and Kingfishers have been badly hurt, or in a few cases, killed.
I take it this is using a tank, so I'm wondering what your view is.

Personally, I don't have an issue, as long as the safety of well-being of the animal is foremost... meaning a very big, deep tank I guess!

                          Re: Kingfisher 3

                          It wasn't a tank Mike.

It was quite a large pool with a deeper section in the middle, where a bucket containing the fish was placed. There was quite a gap at the top and the fish regularly escaped, so needed re-stocking quite a lot. The tanks make it quite easy for the photographer, but this system makes it quite easy for the Kingfisher. Consequently the photography success rate is quite low, because the kingfisher has a much larger are to dive into and as you are pre-focussed and using a remote release, if you are quick enough to trigger the release at the right time, a large number of shots will be blurred.

For safety, the bucket was deeper than they would normally dive by a factor of three and obviously, only above surface shots could be taken.

Nice to see you again Mike.

It's a wonderful capture but one of the problems with these set-ups is that they often have such uniform backdrops.
