Cute, nice shot Carol. The reason swans do this is to conserve body heat, their feet is the only part not covered in feathers and are rather large so the bird can loose body heat from its feet in the water - its their way of controlling their body temperature. Wading birds can control the blood supple to their legs and feet - hence they can stand in very cold water for long periods without loosing body heat.Trev
