Nice pair Trev, prefer the first mainly for the better background.

First for the perch, but second for the unusual stance. Either way super shots of an elusive bird.

you have done well with the light

I had planned to go early on Tuesday but on checking the Blashford blog from a couple of days before they were saying it didnt appear the kingfishers had taken up residence this year and only a few flybys had been reported, so i went back to bed !!

So were these just isolated perchings or regular

            Hi Stan
Had to go up the Forest on Wednesday to sort out a Tenent. Got to Blashford at 7.15 am and both the GC & Little Grebe were right in front the hide. no sooner had I lifted the window than the KF landed on the branch overhanging the end of the Sand Martin wall, it then flew to the up-right stake just below the hide where it did one dive in the water and was gone. I never saw it again. The light was bad plus drizzle, I was in two minds when I got to Ringwood whether to stop or no in view of the weather. Bit disappointed as there were some good shots to be had of the Grebes had the light been better. It needs some landing perches put out in the water for the KF's, the ones there now are too close in - you are looking down on them!

thats a bit of a disappointment as i was hoping the blog had got it all wrong . Still, probably worth having a look again next week

some especially those over the wall in front of the hide must have fallen off over the winter and not been replaced

Yes I will most likely give it a week or two before I go again, make it a over-nighter - rather than a 5am start!!!
