    Kingfisher Dive compilation

This is another dive from the kingfisher on Monday. More a grab shot as i had returned the 200-400 to Colin and was about to put the camera away when he returned to the post, so just had time to turn it on again and get a few frames. For something different i have combined two frames where he is getting ready to dive and then diving

    Very well done Stan.

Any of those dive shots are quite amazing, as there is no warning they are about to go. The two shots on one image really works well.

Nice work, the head on the diving bird looks a bit blurred on my screen, maybe needs a bit faster shutter speed?

it is slightly out but both shots were focussed on the KF as he left the perch so the second could have been just out of the plane of focus. Shutter speed was 1/1000

                    Thanks for looking Brian

I have been watching this shooting this kingfisher and his mate for over 4 months, so have hundreds of shots so the idea of this one was to present it in a different way

                      Re: Kingfisher Dive compilation

Having been there at the time, I thought it was an interesting sequence shot and testament to the motor drive of the 7D MKII, but even more so, your reactions. If it was a slower motordrive, the second shot may have been some tail feathers ................ if you were lucky!

It certainly shows the head locked on to its target and unlike most of my previous Kingfisher shoots where the dive was always straight down, this little fella always went for an angled dive.

Every day is a learning day.

as i mentioned previously this was the last shots of the session just using my 300 f4 on the 7DII so as well as the high frame rate of the 7D the 300 locked on light lightning, although still a bit slower than the 200-400. They do move fast, as the individual shots show ,these were the only two in the frame. Both uploaded direct so some loss of quality and the compilation was made by selecting the kingfisher on the twig and pasting him on the now vacated twig in the exact position he started from

Nothing wrong with thinking outside the box. Have you thought about having multiple images? That would look really impressive.
