When I past my allotted span of three-score and ten recently, I was given a voucher for a photography day at the Barn Owl Centre, Gloucestershire. SWMBO and went along yesterday and I cannot recommend the centre too highly. There were only 9 of us and the folks who run the centre were absolutely great. Friendly, knowledgeable, and above all, helpful to the photographers. This did not involve any coercion of the birds, you had to take what they were prepared to give, but the staff did their very best to create the best opportunities and were happy to repeat flights etc until we had captured images we were happy with (still lots of rejects though!)
The highlight of the day had to be the flying of the two Eagle Owls. These do not have anklets or jesses, so you are close to a free-flying bird as you are likely to get.
We shall be going back there again.
I would not wish to be on the receiving end of these talons!
