    Great Spotted Woodpecker

In the three years I have been visiting the woodland hide at Blashford I have often seen the resident GSW but never been able to get a reasonable shot, either he has landed too high up in the trees or if lower disappeared to the back of the trunk or if fully visible there have been twigs in front of him - until yesterday. Its not 100% and still a bit of an upward angle but I am pleased to get something reasonable after such a long wait

Have a couple of these regularly come into the back garden but each time I spot them and go get the gear they wait until I am set up and then take of.

      Nice shot Stan.

        Well done Stan, nicely captured.

I have only managed the female, not quite as pretty as the male.

I am never sure which is which but more than happy to have captured either.

The male has the extra red at the back of the head.
