    Female Stonechat

Female Stonechat this morning in the Garden/Scrub. Not my favourite type of shot - very bland. I like if I can to get a bit of environmental BG in a shot. However due to the very nature of Stonechat's feeding habits of catching flying insects, more often than not they park themselves at the very top of a bush etc.

It works for me Trev. Lots of detail, nice light and a catchlight.

It works for me too. All that blue sky and we can't go out to enjoy it!

I don't see that as bland, in fact I probably 9 out of 10 times prefer it. Environment shots in some cases when the habitat improves the composition yes otherwise gotta go with Pose Perch & BG IMHO

Thanks Russell. Everyone to their own taste. I just like shots with a bit of environment in it if I can, not always possible, as in this one.
I don't think there are any hard and fast rules to wildlife photography (other than welfare of the creature) although in the past certain people on
this forum have tried to dictate what they consider is right, and in some instances been downright rude about peoples pictures

Absolutely right Trev, we all have opinions and there is no need to be rude about anyone’s efforts in photography three things to remember 1 some people have more professional equipment than others 2 some people have more time than others to devote on their hobby and 3 some people are blessed where they live for photo opportunities, but that doesn’t make them a better photographer than anyone else on here.

Thanks Russell, Yes I do realise how lucky I am in having what I got. Its taken many many years of hard work to create it for the benefit of the wildlife I have here today. A lot of people go out to Nature Reserves etc to take pictures, bird watch etc. but few realise the work that goes on behind the scenes to encourage the wildlife that is there.
As the Queen said to me at my investiture "So many people enjoy our wildlife, but so few give anything back"
