    Yaffle

Spotted this from the shower room window this morning. I think it is a juvenile which had been told to "sit there until I come to feed you". It spent quite some time hopping backwards and forwards on the wooden boards surrounding the tortoise pen.

I am not at all happy with the quality of the images, which came from the Canon RF 600mm f11 lens on my R10. Although the images are a fairly heavy crop and I expect some problems with the bird moving during the somewhat lengthy exposure times (around 1/40th or 1/30th), I am not yet convinced that the lens is catching the focus correctly, although it does intermittently put a green square on the birds eye. Some on-tripod testing of a static target is required!

Nonetheless, a nice bird to see and the first time I have been able to get any sort of image - the adults are just too wary!

Nice capture John, don’t think it’s a juvenile don’t seem to be any barring on the underparts - might be wrong!

Interesting subject! I found the RF600 to be excellent..did you take this through the glass of the window?
I was initially sceptical and over cautious with high ISO so maybe you could use a faster shutter speed than you have here.

        Not through the glass Brian.

I have probably erred on the side of caution regarding the ISO - I take your point and it is something I will try. I usually set to 800 max for these smaller sensors, but the new AI Denoise in LR might give some room for manoeuvre on that.

Yes I understnad that regarding APSC...the pixel density is not that much greater than the R5 and its later technology...
Also I think my R6 and RF100-5000 focusses better with no UV filter on the lens.

Forget the technical and just enjoy two great shots. Well done.
