Most ducks are now coming to full breeding condition and this smart pochard looked in fine fettle.

The red eye is quite piercing. Making image larger shows the delicate structure of the plumage on the side/back.

Seem to be less common than a few years ago and places that had good numbers there is only a handful now.

Was at WWT Welney couple of years ago and by far the most I've ever seen in one place, hard to estimate but several hundred at least.
