    Branta canadensis

Went to a bird hide next to Farmoor Reservoir, the only things I saw were a couple of Swans and this Canada Goose (Branta canadensis). I don't have the patience! But was happy with these.

    Taken with a Canon EOS R8 and a EF 400mm F5.6 and a 1.4x converter.

Lovely shots. Birdwise, there seems very little about. Methinks avian flu has taken a greater toll than we realise.

      Lovely detailed shots Chris
Agree with Colin, there is something not right about bird numbers this year.

Looking at this again Chris, I notice you shot it with the EF400mm F5.6. In my opinion, this is one of Canon's "hero" lenses. Superb quality, relatively inexpensive for an L Series and it just does the business. Originally designed over 20 years ago and there was never a MKII version, because they got it right first time.

Many Canon photographers at the time went for the 100-400mm, because they considered it more versatile, yet they invariably always used it at the 400mm end. Those that chose the 400mm had a sharper, better quality lens and if they needed it to zoom out .............. just walked back a few paces.

Nice to see it's still performing.

One RSPB reserve we visit frequently was extremely quiet last year. During the summer the constant call of black headed gulls was almost gone. Bird flu had decimated them the previous year, 100+ dead each day. Pleased to say numbers are much higher this year, not quite back to previous numbers.
