I would say the shutter speed is about right.

Think how frozen it would look with perfectlly sharp wings, whereas you can see and almost feel the movement within your shots.

Bob - nope no flash, quite a way out on the pond with a brief glimpse of a sunbeam 400mm f/5.6 iso 125 at 1/400.

Not Just a Duck. It's a special Duck, A flappy Duck, most of all a Duck with a smile on his or her beak. Love it.
