    Arundel WWT - flash experiments with tits!

    Hi

    I went to Arundel today with the sole intention of getting to grips with my flash! A 430EX II. So I positioned myself in a dark corner, next to some feeders and waited... I'm quite pleased with these, but C&C welcome, as ever.

    Looks like you had a good day out at Arundel WWT Mike.
    I like the blue tit who's about to take off.
    Some good images and a good "flash" training day.

      My vote also goes for the one about to take off. Very nice. I also have a thing for tits. Only because there seems to be a lot around this year. Where you in a hide? and did you put out nuts or some sort of food lure? I only ask because I have limited experience with bird photography and wonder if there are any tips to be had.

        The Tit taking off is my favourite of the bunch as well, and although I wasn't able to use a fast shutter speed, the flash froze the shot nicely, and kept some good detail.

        @Stephen - yep, a good day, and the weather was great too! I left home in the rain, but by the time I got to Arundel, it was clear blue sky, and remained so all day! Most of these shots were just using the auto ETTL mode, with camera in 'M'anual mode. It just worked!

        @Treff - There were loads of Tits there, so it honestly wasn't that tricky! I was in one of the provided hides, which was next to a set of bird feeders. You have to watch where the birds like to perch before they land on the feeders and focus on that spot... then wait for one to land there and take your shot! Pick a few different places to ensure you get shots that don't all look the same!
        You can of course put your own feed out, but there are places at all WWT reserves that have feeders, so it's a good place to go and practice! Not sure where in Wales you are, but there's WWT reserves at Slimbridge and Llanelli, and I can recommend the WWT reserves if that's what you're considering.

                  That hide at Arundel is dark at the best of times, so flash is a good idea and has worked well

                  I like the blue tit taking off too

                            I think that #3 works really well.
                            I thought about getting a flashgun a while back, but thought that I might be paying out good money to end up getting confused!

                              #Crook - I too wondered whether to get a flash gun, but I've started finding more uses for it, and with Winter upon us, I think it will get much use!
