    Pups having fun at Bewl

Had a little walk out with the pups the other morning.....

Blown highlights on Raes chest due to extreme contrast, but I still love the shot of her.

nice set Paul - I see the key to getting decent shots with moving dogs is keeping the speed high - would you say 1/1000 is about the slowest you could use? I'm thinking about trying some with my puppy but the little bugger moves so fast getting him in the frame is a challenge LOL

Depends how fast they are and the angle of view, but yes, 1/1000 is a good starting point. Sometimes you get away with less. I find the hardest thing is nailing the focus, with nine points the distance between the centre and surrounding points is a little too large, and it's very hard to keep the centre point in the right place with the dog movement. Keeper ratio is very low on shots like Rainbow at the top. It's a little easier if the dog is traveling a known path and you can pre focus

cheers Paul - I think one of my biggest challenges will be getting down to his height - as for working out a path it would seem every direction other than towards me!... I need to send him to dog training classes

You need to be more important than everything else he is likely to encounter, so that he will always return to you on command. Small pieces of chicken are a useful training tool, and following training. You can get it so he is always ready to recall because he has a possibility that it will result in a treat. Start early with it, as it's easier to train from the beginning than it is to rectify bad habits.

yeah, I been letting him run around when I take him for a walk and offer treats when he returns to command - sometimes he returns but if he more interested in sniffing or something catches his attention he's off

I quite like the first, just a bit of a shame the right side is in shadow although you may be able to pull out some detail with the shadow/highlight tool

I didn't actually register in my head that it was that dark, but now you've mentioned it yes, I can see it could probably do with a little bit of lifting. I'll take a look when I get a few minutes. Early start in the morning as we are off to another flyball competition.

Finn..... If you think that's mean you should see him when he really tries, positively evil.
