    Mutt on the run

Shot last weekend at Burnham-on-Sea beach where dogs are banned from May to September. This one seems to be enjoying the opportunity to run about and get wet and mucky...

Alsatian by Andy Mulhearn, on Flickr

Shot with the usual 7D2 and 150-600mm C and at 1/500 so it's interesting, well to me, that the face is in focus and sharp but it's feet have motion blur...

Super shot Andy...the feet are going faster than the rest of the dog (at least when the feet are going forwards - slower when going backwards...I think) and thats a super effect that enhances the motion and speed....I'd say that is the ideal condition.

                  Cheers Ian and Bo

I suspect he was. And hosed down in the back garden too perhaps...

Nicely caught. The motion in the feet adds to the moment too. It's surprising how fast dogs can actually move. When I capture a dog turning on the flyball box I aim for a minimum of 1/2000th and even then the head will sometimes show movement. Pans depend on the dog, but 1/400th is usually in the ballpark for a sharp face with movement in the legs.
