    WINTER FORAY

Taken at the Wildfowl Wetlands Centre Washington Tyne Wear, giving the new canon 100MM F2.8 Macro a run out, coupled with the 7D makes quite a bit of weight.
First attempt at this macro lark going to be a bit tricky till get the hang of it.

nice first outting with a great lens - I had your set up before moving to FF and trust me you'll soon find out that light is a real problem. In the end I bought a ring flash

Ian beat me to it have just purchased a Canon Speedlight 430 mk2, this should help the cause especially in this north east England weather.
Also picked up a flash bracket allows off camera auto flash with the 7D.

I would invest in a diffuser otherwise your going to have issues using a speedlight for macro work over a ring flash -

          Re: WINTER FORAY

Ian will have to go with the attached diffuser on the 430ex mk2 till sure macro work is for me,funds bit tight after christmas especially re prices for ring flash.
Thoughts were if about turn on macro work should be able to sell on the 100mm lens ok,suppose its a belt and braces job.
          thanks

            Re: WINTER FORAY

try checking out some of the diffusers by doing an image search then you'll see some of the extremes people go to use standard flash with macro - with some DIY you can make a good diffuser that will be a lot better than the standard one

                  Hi George

You'll have great fun with the macro, in the spring/summer you'll be shooting flowers/ insects a whole new world to capture.
