    Unidentified Madeira flower

Are there any botanists on the Forum who can put a name to this. We went to Madeira in January and brought back some assorted bulbs, one of which has rewarded us with this pretty, quite delicate blossom. But we don't know what it is! Any thoughts anyone?

Canna indica var. by Russell Hunt, on Flickr

Thanks for looking. Update: After a lot of searching we have discovered that it is a variety of Canna indica. Amazing what you learn when you take up photography.

Thanks Chris. Yes it look like Crocosmia family but I'm confused by the "tongue". Most of the Crocosmias that I've checked online seem to have an even arrangement of petals (forming the corolla), and long stamens. This one has neither.

                      Re: Unidentified Madeira flower

Thanks for looking Alan. What I have in mind is a single image combining the two images flower/seed pod as a before & after effect. My skills with the magic lasso tool are not that great though, but I assume that's the only way to do it. Unless someone on the forum knows better ....

Something like this perhaps? Unfortunately with the seed pod version being on a bright blue background, some of the blue is reflecting into the green

                          Magic wand. Quick selection

There are two ways you can make the selection. As the background is quite plain then the Magic wand tool should make a selection of all the background quite easily although you may have to click a couple of times to select the bits inside the flower heads. When all selected just reverse the selection, copy and then paste the flower onto the new background. As an alternative you can use the quick selection tool to select the flower and then copy and paste

I went for the colour range option given it's all green and on a hugely different background.
