    First Go, Be Kind?

Pretty much the first shot out of the box for my new d1000, with the kit lens, and first photo taken by me for about nine years.....

Well done not much wrong with the kit lenses they work very well.

For me your image is well exposed and framed the only suggestions that I would make is to crop a little off the top to balance the amount of free space at the bottom, ideally I would have liked a little more at the bottom and I would crop the right hand side to remove the green leaf in the very top right hand corner. I think that this would remove the bright spot that keeps drawing my eye away from the flower and balance the picture.

If you could have used a slightly smaller apature higher f# you would have increased the depth of field and the stamens would have been sharper which would have in my opinion transformed the picture from good to a real cracker

Great first attempt keep them coming

      Thumbs up from me.

But I can see what Muscat means with the green in the top right corner. (My beginner opinion only) I would try cloning it with the black on the left, and make the photo all black and flower and see how that looks and if it doesn't work still try the crop.

        Marvelous first image.

Good exposure and spot on composition, but as others have previously mentioned, I would tone down the green in the upper right. Well done.

Very nice first pic, the flower really stands out against the black backround, look forward to seeing more.

Love the light and silky colours in this, pleasure to view.
