In the above photo the frond would be called the Koru. The fern shouldn't have any thorns though! Do you have a photo of the adult plant or unfurled frond? Do you happen to remember if the fern had a silvery underside? Did the fern have a trunk, black? If so, then it is probably the NZ Tree Fern or 'ponga'.Richard
