    Sad end to an Elm

Seen in Brighton where they protected their elms from the Dutch Elm Disease, but it still strikes within their "cordon". This one had been infected and bark-ringed, presumably before felling and destroying.

I don't find tree identification all that easy, but the elm is a simple one because of the way the two sides of the leaf blade join the leaf stalk in an asymmetrical way -

    50D + 24-105L.
    Cheers, Chris.
    Just chuggin' along.

It is a sad day when you have to do this to trees to save the others, thanks for the note of how to identify the Elm

Things you learn, I've just been looking up after seeing this picture... it says that the brown streaks under the bark is the one of the indications of how far the disease is... and that it is possible for a tree to regrow from suckers if its not completely killed.

      Learn something every day.
