    Soapwort

    Soapwort, Saponaria officinalis.

Called soapwort 'cos if you boil it up it gives a liquid that could act in a soapy way - I believe it was used for laundry in days gone by... Saponaria translates as such (bit like the French savon) and officinalis means "useful".... Extract of boiled roots also good for eczema and acts as a laxative! Grows as a roadside weed but also planted in gardens.

Petals looked a bit "bleached" but that is their colour.
Have also heard it referred to by the name "Bouncing Bett".

    Cheers, Chris.

It's a beautiful flower, like how the stamens stand so far out from the petals.

Chris, once again thanks for the details relating to the plant, it never ceases to amaze me the uses that a simple pink flower can be used for. Having said that it is a delicate little flower
