    Tortoiseshell butterfly

The sun came out after a cloudy and cool morning, so I went out with my 100mm macro lens and, lo and behold, a tortoiseshell butterfly landed obligingly on this shrub. Hand-held and manual focus
Nice to see them back in the garden.

Great shot, very sharp. Hope you don't mind, but here's one I caught earlier too, a little ropey looking compared to yours but suspect its made it through the winter so deserved a photo.

It looks much lighter in colour doesn't it unless it is a trick of the light? Interesting comparison.
