    Stag in the grass

Was in the garden this afternoon, and spoted this female Stag Beetle on the lawn.

Grabbed the camera, no time to put the 105mm Macro lens on, just used the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 EX DG, which was aready attached.

I have zoomed in and cropped out the outer areas of the picture, to show the beetle at a reasonable size.

Living in rural location, its not unusual to see Stag Beetles flying around at dusk, but they aren't often seen during the day.

The image has been reduced to 800x600 and resaved 'for web'

It is a bit small in the frame but given the lens not surprising.

Indeed Stan, it needed the 105mm f/2.8 Macro to do it justice, but it was a case of grab a shot while I could, and the 18-50 was attached the camera.
