    Lord of the Flies

I had been watching this fly for a while and realised he was returning to same little area. I placed the tripod gently near the fly and set the lens to MF to give me faster focusing. I'm really quite pleased with this shot, it was taken yesterday morning with my now reconditioned ef-s17-85mm which seems to be working nicely.

    1/800 - f/5.6 - ISO 800 - 85mm.

The background is a bit bright Tom but the fly is really good - the 17-85 has worked well

Great detail Tom, like the shadow of the wing.

Thanks for the comments chaps, yes the wing's shadow was a nice surprise. I see what you're saying, Stan, about the brightness of the background, I've just learnt how to do this in photoshop; learning is great.

I still, IMHO, prefer the first image.

If only the fly would stay still long enough to bracket three shots. I cut out the fly, then with a mask darkened the background.

If that's what you mean with this shot?
