    Butterflies

After seeing the excellent Large White image Stan posted and some of the other good images being posted of butterflies thought I'd add a few I've taken recently.

        Re: Butterflies

        All well worth processing

the small tortoiseshell is perhaps a tad oversharpened and of the whites my favourite is the first but only because of the clean background

See what you mean about the ST, I tend to only use small amount of high pass

          Here's none sharpened

            Re: Butterflies

            that does look better

I tend to only use small amount of high pass
I only use high pass for buildings and landscapes where I want the whole scene sharpened otherwise with any wildlife where I only want the subject sharpened I use usm on a duplicate layer. The advantage is that you can sharpen the whole frame and then mask out the areas you don't want sharpened and then additionally by varying the opacity of the layer you can fine tune the effect
