    Common Darter

Went in search of dragonflies on Saturday to Crockford Stream in the New Forest and wasn't disappointed with half a dozen varieties seen plus damsels and demoiselles.
This one is a common darter, shot head on.WDYT

Love it Stan. You really are showing what can be done without a macro lens.

      Very nice capture Stan!
I saw a 2nd hand 300 f/4 yesterday and wondered how it might work with the 1.4x - looks like I've seen the answer!

Stuart, it's a very capable combination and was something I used for motorsport and birds in flight until I got the 500.

          Cheers Glenn and Stuart

seem to use it more and more than my macro, the extra working distance means less chance of spooking but of course the downside is its much heavier

the 300 is an excellent lens on its own and there is no noticable loss in quality when used with the 1.4 converter.
Both my wife and i use the same combo

Really going off you Stan,I'm still having trouble getting a clean image of a butterfly never mind dragonflies
Every time you post an image i have to keep going back to the drawing board and try a bit harder

sorry about that Paul lol. If its any consolation this is the first season that I have managed to get a reasonable number of decent shots in amongst a lot of rubbish
