    Banded Demoiselle - female

From the river yesterday, quite a few about but none would pose on the top of the nettles for a cleaner background

Lovely colours I will have to dust off my Macro though you may get your insects a bit earlier than us up North?

normally I would use my 300 f4 with or without the converter for these but with the vegetation on this one I was having difficulty in focussing so used the macro and got stung more by the nettles as I tried to get close enough.

given the choice, a prime 300 or 400 is going to be much better to capture dragons and damsels - the extra working distance means less chance of disturbing them and quite often they are in a position where it is difficult to get in close with a macro. This one with the macro was a bit of an exception and 90 % of my similar images are shot either with the 300 f4 or with the converter added
