Nice detail in the butterfly & flower, but looks like it could have done with a wider aperture to defocus the background more, which I feel is a little too distracting...

no exif on flickr Trev, always a good idea to post your settings in the thread. the butterfly is good but I think probably the background was "too near" to be able to effectively defocus even with a wide aperture

Hi Stan thanks for your comment all taken on board . I'm afraid that I'm no longer into the technicalities of photography having spent a working life in film worrying about such things. Now I just take pictures if they appeal to me I must admit I do like to include a natural BG to a subject if at all possible - a little messy one may say. Having said that I do admire your work greatly, you and your good lady produce some stunning shots. I've spent a life time working with wildlife for which I've received accolades and honours. Now at a age of nearer eighty than seventy I just spend my time enjoying what I see and clicking away.

Thanks Lee, Stan, John, Peter, Bill. Was bit amazed at the number there were at the Burrows, I think a lot do now overwinter in this country like the Red Admiral.

Not too bothered about the BG. Don't know why always expect to see a really colourful butterfly when someone says Painted Lady.
