I'm going to be the odd one out here Stan. That is an excellent capture to get it mid-air like that. However I like to see a little 'habitate' in shots. Hope you're not offended, that's just me -- would not do for all of us to be the same

half an hour and a lot of frustration

no problem Trev, although I think with this sort of shot it is more about capturing the moment. this shot was from a hide at Barnes and the dragonfly was flying back and forth at eye level and not really hovering at all so it was a question trying to lock on and shooting as I panned and hope to get one sharp.

Here is another shot from Arne a couple of years back where the dragon was flying over and close to the pond so shooting downwards and even here the background is quite clear

Another excellent shot and I do prefer it to the first. The background is more natural and also there's a contrast of the colours. I'd love to be able get something anywhere close to either of those!

Same as Chris Stan, the second is my pick of the two, it looks more natural. Nevertheless two good shots, bad enough trying to capture a sparrow in flight leave alone something that size
