    House Mouse

Around lunchtime at the British Wildlife Centre on Sunday the heavens opened so we decided to look around the barn. Normally its too dark in there for shots but as I had the macro lens and 580EX II with me decided to have a go. The only little creatures active were the house mice. Camera set to manual mode, f8 and 1/200 with the flash in ETTL mode at around +1 fec

          Thanks for looking guys
good use of the flash, it hasn't overpowered the shots at all.
I've not used flash in these circumstances before, the shot is through glass and I was worried about the flash reflecting but it didnt.

I dont normally take mine or the macro with me either but glad i did this time as in the barn you would not be able to get the shots without it. Dee left her flash and macro at home so we spent some time swapping lens and flash so she could get some shots too.
Would be good for the harvest mouse in the main reception / cafe too - unfortunately on sunday he was curled up in a ball at the bottom of the cage

Very Nice. Especially #3. Very crisp and well positioned.
Like the brown-ish background too by the way.

Like these very much. You're tempting me to go and invest in a flash unit......arghhh more money!

Like number one, does look very natural. Did you have to put the lens right up to the glass?

Did you have to put the lens right up to the glass?
thats something else i meant to mention - the tamron 90 is not an internal focussing lens so you cant put it right up against glass very easily as the lens extends as you focus, so with these shots i was at least a foot back from the glass - another reason i thought the flash might bounce back

Stan, really nice exposure on these, I like them.

#1 for me - a more traditional mouse pose, with very nice OOF background! I too am now convinced I should try more flash work!

its never ending although a reasonable macro lens is at the cheaper end of the scale
