    Stan, that's one nice shot!

I spent a few hours at Barnes WWT today trying to get something like yours... didn't even come close to a shot, let alone a keeper! Mixed weather, sun and rain, and not much going on at all. Still, I had a relaxing time, and finally saw a Hobby, although no shot of it!

Thanks for posting. All the best, Mike.

That's a brilliant shot Stan. Another one for me to aspire to :)

How on earth did you manage that Stan, I have yet to succeed in getting an image as good as this when the insect is stationary, clever stuff .

when we were there last week we saw lots of migrant hawkers and also failed to get the flight shot. I think the problem was that although they did hover momentarily there was always vegitation behind and I could not lock the focus. It was the same yesterday at Arne, the hawkers stopped in front of vegitation but the darters were flying closer to the water so focus was a bit easier against a plain background - this one is a water lily leaf. I was quite lucky as i got two seperate bursts of sharp shots but this one had the best wing position

Stan, that explanation makes me feel much better! Thanks.

I did manage a couple of 'reference' shots of the Hawkers last Sunday at Barnes, but they were nowhere near as good as the one Dan posted, so I didn't post them on the forum! No, honestly!

                Thanks Dan and Di
You said in my thread on the migrant hawker that you hadn't managed an in-flight shot this year so you must be pleased with this one.
thats right Dan, its the first and probably the last of the year but not too worried as i doubt I could get any better
