Just that. The edible winkle - Littorina littorea - resting between tides.
When they are covered by the sea they will roam around grazing on algae etc.
One of 4 different winkles usually found on our shores - the others are the Small, the Rough and the Flat.
Not my favourite bit of sea food, but have eaten a lot of these - cooked well and then the flesh "winkled out" of the shell with a hat-pin.
