    Stonechat and nesting material

Dee and i went cycling along the beach prom this afternoon and took cameras just in case....and spent a good hour of so watching a pair of stonechats preparing their nest. The female was gathering feathers and bits of grass while the male just sat on the nearby gorse just watching her. Having found some suitable material, the female would fly to the gorse, play with it a little bit before flying back to the nest and repeating the whole thing again

Here she is on the gorse

Nice capture, Stan. I now have a mental image of you on a bike with the 300mm strapped to your back!

              All the best, mike.

you are not far wrong Mike. We live around 4 miles from the beach and when Dee was down there last week she saw the stonechats and some greenfinch but had no camera so this time we went prepared. Both had the 7D's with 300 f4 and converter attached and after carefully wrappping them each in an old coat they went in the bags on my bike. When we got to the prom, knowing there would probably be no time to get the cameras out when or if we saw any birds we did have to sling them over our shoulders and cycle very carefully and slowly. Had we had anything bigger than the 300 we wouldnt have been able to do it.

                    Heres a couple more

with something fluffy on the gorse

and one on the ground - this one she was so near I had to move back to get her in the frame
