    absolutely stunning Stan,
whats your opinion on the 300mm f4 lens.
seems to be well suited for wildlife photography

its the lens thats almost glued to the camera
In my opinion there is nothing to beat it unless you can afford a 300 f2.8 or 500 f4

              Hi Stan

Lovely colours with spot on focusing as usual.
Think it's time to remove the dust from my macro lens.

forget the macro for these Paul. just use your 300 f2.8 with or without the converter

I'll give that a try but its a large heavy lens to carry around for long periods, + I think the f4 version can focus a lot closer than the f2.8 range but I'll double check that.

Ah, I had forgotton that - yes the f4 min distance is 1.5 metres and looking at my exif i am usually quite close to that minimum. The f 2.8 is something like 3 metres ?, which really is probably a bit far away to get the subject a decent size in the frame - so yes in your case you would be better off using the macro and i wil stop wanting an f 2.8 - at least for dragons anyway
