    Kestrel

This is a slight rework of a shot from Hengistbury Head this time last year. I had been following this bird for a while when I lost sight of him only to find him perched on a post some 10 metres away. I managed a couple of shots before he noticed me and flew off and being so close there was not as much room at the bottom of the frame as i would have liked, so a small crop and some canvas added at the bottom

Lovely shot Stan. Why don't they land near me?

Just out of interest, do you keep your camera and lens in the "ever ready mode" so that you can pick up your camera and fire away when you see these birds? I usually leave my gear inside my camera bag and by the time I take the camera out, the bird has flown away!!!

Nat - I think you've just answered your own question!

Stan - that's a very nice shot Stan... I'm still trying to get a Kestrel shot... I guess one day I'll be lucky enough! Thanks for posting.

      All the best, Mike.

Once I am out of the car and walking a reserve etc the camera is always at the ready because you never know when and if something is going to turn up.

Nice one Stan. When I was in the Dunes last week, one was hovering ... quite a feat considering the windspeed. Only had my G10 so no viable picture.

That is certainly a wonderful image of a kestrel, Stan.
I only ever see them on a wire or post as I'm driving past and normally without the camera.
Well done and thank you for sharing with us.
