Not sure about this one, but maybe I've been playing with it too much... any ideas?

Re: Kyoto Japanese Garden, Holland Park, London
Then I probably shouldn't mention that I also experimented with getting a milky effect by shooting a burst of images and combining them in Photoshop (using the built-in Statistics script with Auto-align and Mean), as an alternative to using a ND filter and a tripod (which you really couldn't use there anyway, as it's so busy).
Though on balance I think I also prefer "real" water.
This is the sort of thing you can get with the burst/combine approach...Attached FilesLast edited by DrJon; 11-07-2015, 16:33.

Re: Kyoto Japanese Garden, Holland Park, London
I may need to run and hide from Dave if I keep this up! The above one was quite a lot of frames, 33, so about 4 secs (freehand with a stabilised lens). I started shooting Raw+JPEG but quickly realised I really didn't need the Raw files and the buffer depth went shooting up. The ones below are 53 (left/top, depending on browser) and 87 (both with my 5DmkII which has a much smaller buffer than the GH4 and half the shooting rate, also freehand but with a non-IS lens this time). One other plus is no need to work out the long exposure maths for the ND (and then find it doesn't quite work out anyway):

Re: Kyoto Japanese Garden, Holland Park, London
If you have Photoshop CS6 extended or CC (I have the former) the process of making these is basically trivial:
(1) Shoot a fairly long burst of the moving water feature.
(2) In Photoshop choose File->Scripts->Statistics.
(3) Select "Mean" in the top drop down, Tick "Attempt to Automatically Align Source Images".
(4) Click Browse and select the images you shot in (1).
(5) Hit OK.Last edited by DrJon; 12-07-2015, 17:50.
