    Family portrait

    Hi all

I was asked to take a portrait of a family of children for a friend recently, after explaining I take photos of sports people and not kids and portraits weren't my thing, he still insisted he'd be happy for me to do it.

Before I show him the results I'd be grateful for some honest feedback. I'm reasonably happy with them but not sure on white balance.

    Here they are:

They will be printed but around the 10x8 size so not huge error exposing canvases....thank god!!

Thanks Andy, it was one of those baptism of fire jobs! Never work with kids and animals they say, and now I know why!

            Re: Family portrait

I'd go for #2. The first one has some shadow and I find the background of #3 (although it's OOF) quite distracting, a tight crop might work. On #2 it might help to tone down the boy's face LHS, and perhaps that of the baby.

Just my opinion - feel free to ignore.

Mike, I'd go with #3. The colour works best for me and the bench adds interest. I do think that toning down the orange in the background would be time well spent.

I really like number three as well. Hope the family like them.

Mike, #3 is a peach - really well done, I would be really pleased with that. I see what others are saying and maybe just a selective brightness adjustment (down) on the background - would make it even better - but well done

Very tricky with so many children and think you've done well.

Overall No3 for me as well.

I am with Alex on number 3 and toning down the oranges in the background and that will appear to warm up the skin tones.

I would go for no 2, for me it portrays a more natural and flattering pose for each of the children.

Thanks for the feedback, toning down that background as we speak! The problem and the orange was caused by a large paddling pool that we couldn't shift.

Like most others, No3 is a peach.

I'd consider cloning this blob? on the bench (left arrow below) and possibly the metal clasp (right arrow), but not as critical.
