I was at a music festival recently and experimented with an effect I'd seen but never tried: zooming in during a slow shutter exposure (these were all 1/4 secs). All pretty hit and miss but the results were interesting and it's clear it works best in low light with a smattering of bright points (daylight would need a ND filter):

And this one I used flash to freeze the portrait while the background continued to zoom:
