    The Moon

Here's a picture from tonight. Not great conditions as there was some high cloud. I've pulled the zoom back from the extreme long-end to avoid the softness which creeps in.

    EOS 60D Sigma 150-500 @ 403mm plus 2x T/C (806mm) f/16 1/250 ISO 400

Here's the same image fused from -1,0,+1 images from the single RAW. There's a lot more detail in this version, but maybe too much, and definitely too much noise!

Excellent images....better than my efforts. I found, you need a very sturdy tripod and head

Thanks Tom, John, Andy and hhcanon!

            Live-view on 10x magnification ensures good focus/detail.

It was a relatively still night wind wise but I didn't extend the tripod beyond the widest leg section to maintain stability.

Very good Steve, I must have a go at this at some time.

Second image is great, only a bit of noise really in the dark areas, nothing to worry about.

                Regards Paul

Fantastic images! Very envious. Had a look at trying but my 55-250 lens is no where near lol

                    Re: The Moon

#2 is my preferred shot despite the extra noise. I doubt you'd lose too much detail if you reduced it some, but very good anyway.
I can see I'm going to have to get into this HDR processing on my computer - I've only tried it in camera so far (being a feature of the 5D3) but it has only 5 pre-sets, mostly a bit too abstract for most situations and it generates a jpeg not RAW.

Subtle HDR's a great tool, once you've got over the initial desire to play with the extreme settings ;-)

Great detail in your shot of the moon,Like the second version even better, love the detail it brings out.

                          The Moon

It's quite amazing to see the almost total coverage of craters, even in the at-first-glance clear areas, in the HDR version when viewed at almost original size.

I've often wanted to take a series of moon photos from new to full and blend them together to obtain an accurate representation of the whole (front) surface side-lit as the light-dark transition area is, as this would give the greatest depth to the Image. Unfortunately I've never had the commitment (or weather) to go through with it!

I like that you've gone for the moon in half shadow. Really makes the most of the craters. Looking forward to seeing more.
