Here's some fireworks shots I took last night, using a technique I've just discovered, that involves adjusting the focus during the exposure.

Re: FIreworks, with midexposure re-focus
thats an interesting effect - I do like the last one most of the set
when you say adjusting the focus what do you mean, zooming in? sorry I've only had one coffee so far:- Ian

Re: FIreworks, with midexposure re-focus
Hi Ian, you can start with the camera either in focus or out of focus. Then during the exposure you manually return to focus or out of focus. Images one and two started out of focus and where moved back to focus during the exposure. Whilst the third started in focus and was moved out of focus during the exposure.
I first saw the effect on the facebook page a Japanese photographer that I follow. The facebook auto translate was a little confusing, but it gave me a hint. A little research quickly confirmed my suspicion of what he was doing and turned up a couple of tutorial too boot :)

Re: FIreworks, with midexposure re-focus
All 3 work for me. Ideal subject matter for this technique, not that I've tried it myself as yetAlan.
