Stan, that is a cracker. Beautiful colours.

You took this with the gear that I currently use which is "so annoying"... every time I think I must raid the household food budget and change my 17-85 someone posts a beauty like this.... oh well at least the family can eat for another couple of days if I don't change the lens.

nothing wrong with the 17-85 as far as I am concerned. What would you change yours for ?

I would change it for the 24-105 but as you said at the end of the day there is nothing wrong with it.... just the person pushing the shutter button...

I try to remember what I should be doing before I take a shot and my head feels as though it will "explode" for example at the weekend wife, dog and I walked around the Tring Resevoirs, the Grand Union Canal and the Wendover Arm of the Grand Union, (nothing like MX5's walks) saw a heron standing in the reeds and took a shot, it was low light, slow shutter speed etc etc, the heron took off so I tried a pan of it in flight and it was rubbish...forgotten the shutter speed was sooo slow... DUH!!!!

I think thats the problem with a "walkabout" lens in that you need to be ready for anything and all the different settings you may need for the different sorts of shot which is why we tend to decide what we want to shoot beforehand and have the appropriate lens on the camera and set up. If we miss out on a different sort of shot then just hope it is not that "once in a lifetime" moment

There are some good photo opportunities in the cathedral but it can get quite busy so you have to pick your moment to shoot
