    My set up

This is a shot of the rig that I made

The photo trigger takes some setting up and the alignment of the laser is critical. I need to get an extension lead to connect it to the camera as the supplied one is too short. I can raise and lower the laser independently of the water dropper.

I found a little issue with the Yongonu RF603 remote triggers they don't work if you have mirror lock-up enabled. They just don't fire for some reason.

I am using a valve from a garden irrigation system to regulate the drop flow.

    More experimentation and practice needed.

      Andy,

They come as part of the Photo Trigger package. It has a sound trigger module as well as the laser break beam one.

That's a very nice set-up Colin, far more substantial, reproducible, and adjustable than my Heath-Robinson abominations, you've ven cable-tied the cables out of the way!

As for your trigger-problem, have you tried using LiveView mode instead of mirror lock-up? I wonder whether the issue is with the triggers going to sleep and now awakening with the initial half-press on the shutter button?

S_J_P, The problem is definitely with the triggers. If you Lock the mirror up, which is the recommended mode with the Photo Trigger, then the second green light illuminates on the trigger and stays lit then when the Photo Trigger (or manual shutter press) triggers the shutter the flashes don't fire. Maybe they are expecting the fire signal immediately after the mirror up which I presume it interprets as focus lock. The trouble with live view is the shutter lag closing the mirror and then flipping it up again to take the shot. Luckily the Photo Trigger will work without the mirror being locked up you just have to adjust the delay on the Photo Trigger.
