    First Cricket

Did my first Cricket game of the season and had the chance to borrow a Canon x2 extender MKII to go with my EF300mm f2.8.
Seems to work very well, here's a few shots below

    Re: First Cricket

Excellent work Paul, really like these, and you have captured the essence of the game.Nice and sharp, so that lens combo is working ok. If you didnt know, cricket is my other passion and I usually take several thousand shots per year, but so far its been nothing but rain. Playing again this year, if the body holds out at 58, so probably less photos. Thanks for putting these up.
P.S. is your 300 the IS version? and do you really need IS for cricket?

      Re: First Cricket

You have done really well to get the ball in with those first two shots considering the speed it arrives at the bat. Great work, Paul, and thanks for sharing.

        Re: First Cricket

        Many thanks hhcanon,
Nice sport to photograph but tricky to add new ways to shoot it, always looking for different angles to capture the sport, thought with 600mm i would be right in the face of the bats man !! but not so.

P.S. is your 300 the IS version? and do you really need IS for cricket?
This EF300mm is an old version so no IS but IQ is still right up there,I shoot 99% sport images and have never needed IS as i always keep my shutter speed fairly high.Only one of my lenses has IS and that's the 24-105 L but can't say it helps with slower shutter speeds there still blurred so I've never felt the need to have IS.

          Thanks Ian
Like football i will always include the ball, the shots just doesn't work without it, #1 could have done with a little less space at the front and a bit more space at the back.

Bravo sire - can't comment on them as I don't 'do people' shots but they all look damn good to me #2 would be my pick, only because all eyes are on the ball.

                      Many thanks to all,

Lots of cricket to cover from now on, so I'll try and make it as interesting and as action packed as i can. Unfortunately no wickets fell whilst i was shooting that day so hopefully I'll get that shot next time around.

You have set the bar now paul! so ill have to get my skates on so to speak. I had a free ticket with lunch today for Susssex v Lancs, as you can imagine, not a ball bowled, with just incessant rain again.
