it is all a bit confusing - the left hand and right hand refers to the lean of the bike, I think and the way they go round the track - left anticlockwise and right clockwise. The four images here are all left hand, the last slightly different and they race seperatly. Here is one of the right hand - for comparison

OK that makes sense thanks Stan.

However I did notice your first three images are what I would call Left handed as the Driver is in the left hand driving position when compared to chair, and the last one I would call right handed as the driver is in the right had position. They all appear to be going around the same corner. do they race on a simple oval track or a track with left and right hand corners?

I told you it was a bit confusing All four images from the first set are left hand sidecars - that's from the official programme and the last image is right hand, although the bike is on the same side of the sidecar as image 4 with is left hand !! The track is just an oval - very similar to speedway but set out in a farmers field rather than a stadium

So do both variants race in both the clockwise and anticlockwise direction?

I understand that the handedness of the outfit is determined by the direction it races. However the position of the chair relative to the bike seems to not to be considered looking at image four and the rest in that first set. So how do they determine which machine are eligible to race in any given direction?

Looking again at image four those machines seem a little different to the ones in the first three images and the one you posted latter on, in that the wheel on the chair is vertical whilst on the others it is significantly canted in towards the bike. Are those machines (the ones in image four) a different class again?

The confusion continues

The bikes in 1, 2 and 3 are 500cc righthand sidecars, 4 is 1000cc righthand and 5 is 1000cc left hand

Thank Stan, I think I'll just have to remain ignorant of the vagaries of right and left handed grass track side cars, because I more confused than when I started this conversation.

I do understand that the handedness is determined by the direction of travel around the track, but I don't understand what role the position of the chair plays, in which direction they race as it seems to be irrelevant.
