British Grand Prix - Race Day

I thought it was about time I bit the bullet and posted some of my efforts from the GP. It was a great weekend, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The conditions were a challenge to take photos in, especially for one with little experience, like me! I had to push the iso up to get the shutter speed, then chose the wrong shutter speed to get the panning blurAlso, I think I have found the limit to my cameras capabilities. I hired a 100-400L for the weekend. My 500d coped with that fine, but, the autofocus just couldn't keep up. Here are a few of my efforts. All shot with my 500 and the hired 100-400L. All handheld, shot onto Stowe Corner. I know they are soft, and a little repetitive, I hope you enjoy anyway.

A great set Garry. 1st ones a cracker with motion in the wheels as well as the panning. A real sense of speed. Well done.

Thanks Paul for your kind comments. Means a lot coming from an expert The Mclarens, yes, what can I say. And me with my Jenson (Brawn GP) t shirt on too! This was during the formation lap, so the only time Jenson reached Stowe Corner for the whole race. Oh well, maybe next year.....

There not bad at all Garry well done
Silverstone (and this goes for most racetracks) are not the easiest places to get the shots so you have done really well.

Well done Garry. For some reason they look a lot better on flickr. The Rolex sign being mashed by the 911 is a good catch too.

Nice set Garry, as you said they are a Tad soft but they convey the story of your day which is what you will remember in years to come, not everything in Photography is about ultra sharpness.

The 100-400mm Lens you hired is a Versatile Lens but does need really good light to get the best out of it so you will always struggle on a gloomy day.

Thanks Paul. The lens was amazing, and I really liked it. Looking through my shots though, many of them were shot around a FL of 220-270mm, so I could have gotten away with my 70-200f4 for those, but, there are a few that I love at full 400 FL, so it was worth the hire for those. Took me a while to get used to the weight of that lens too! The Optech strap came in to its own though. I can honestly say that I had the 100-400 and camera hanging off my shoulder for almost 3 full days, and had NO aches and pains at all. Love that strap!
