    Jet Fighter - Crash Landing

    Hi,
Posted this shot out of interest - its not particularly good photograph but more of a record snap shot - I just thought some of you with an interest in old RAF jet fighter planes might fine it interesting. Taken in a farmers field near Pershore in Worcestershire. The front part of the RAF Vampire, from the cockpit onwards, is completely stoved in.

Ouch that must have hurt. I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure the tractor wheels weren't part of the plane

I don't know why the jet is in the state it is - perhaps bought as a collectors item but left to rot amongst other unused farm junk.

Is this the same farm where you photographed some other scrapped jets? Strange things to collect and then just leave. The other thing that struck me is how small it looks compared to the tractor wheels.

          Yes - the same farm.
I don't know what happened to the front section or why it's dumped away from the others out in a field all by itself.
          Weird !

What's left there would be mainly wood, and very little scrap value. Can't see from the photo whether the engine is still there or not.

Don't think the engine is there - the cockpit is surprisingly cramped - you would have to have nerves of steel to fly them

                Hi Jim,

I can remember when that was a complete aircraft about 20 years ago! There used to be at least one other ex RAF jet there - Hawker Hunter, maybe. I can't remember????

                Cheers,

Yes it's still there ( Hawker Hunter) + a complete Vampire - this is another one - intriguing eh ?
