Re: Simply Timeless
Hi Tony,
Got 'rescued' by one of these when I was in the ATC at Summer camp - RAF Valley. This was in the days before Elf N Safety was around. I seem to recall there were 6 of us cadets - the tallest ones (and who volunteered). They put us in a boat a couple of hundred yards off shore and the helicopter came out and winched us off to 'safety'. Bloody great fun!!!
Cheers,

Re: Simply Timeless
Neil, they did that to a RAF friend of mine out in Belize with a Puma, they dropped him off, disappeared out over the horizon then came back to do a sweep and recovery exercise......... but lost him, he was floating around in a one man raft for about 3 hours LOL, he said the crewmans face said it all when they found him. Oddly enough he never volunteered again.
This will bring back memories for you

Re: Simply Timeless
We were in quite a big boat, with proper RAF personnel looking after us. I also got to ride in a Gnat trainer at Valley - but that's a whole 'nother story!Neilly's Flickr Page

Re: Simply Timeless
I was part of a fire service rock rescue team & got winched up & a ride round North Devon. Got permission to lean out the opening ( on a harness) to take photos, unknown to me the crew, after consulting my mates on board dropped the helicopter 50 ft in seconds & my pants nearly became a different colour. Shots were rubbish as well, unlike your great ones Tony.

Re: Simply Timeless
I remember those from my youth... They used to fly out of RAF Thorney Island before it closed and were a familiar site over our village for years.
Thanks for the trip down Nostalgia Avenue.Nigel
