The RIAT is claimed to be the biggest international airshow and is held at RAF Fairford, near Swindon in the UK. Due to Covid it didn't happen in 2020 or 2021.
Aircraft from airforces all over the world attend for the 3 day show held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Wednesday and Thursday are when the aircraft fly into the base and tickets are available to see the arrivals.
Having used my R3 extensively for wildlife, motorsports and portraits, I went along to the airshow yesterday to use my R3 to photograph the arrivals. I was keen to try various AF settings as well as a range of shutter speeds.
I used my EF100-400 mkII and my EF300mm f2.8 L MKII and the EF to RF adaptor
I used ES for all the shots to see if there were any rolling shutter effects.
The weather was very hot and fluctuated between bright sun and overcast high cloud and was very hot (for the UK) at 30C. There was lots of air turbulence rising from the runway - a buzzard that flew over the airfield gained 500m in a few seconds as it entered a strong thermal.
Here's some of the images - lightly processed in LRCC and all full frame low res jpegs
