    Porsche Cayman S

Here are some shots of the Cayman S from the press launch in Portugal back in February done over two evenings for the best light.

Thanks for posting these. Great pictures. Love this car, who needs a 911.

          Re: Porsche Cayman S

When you drive them on track you realise why you need a 911!

I did a back-to-back of a 997 GT3 RS 3.8 on road legal trackday tyres against a Ferrari F430 Challenge racecar on slicks at Ascari in 2010. The 911 was simply better out of the bends.

The Cayman also suffers the typical mid-engined problem of less traction out of a corner than its big brother, even on hairpin bends in the French Alps.

That said. the optional limited slip diff on the new Cayman helps a lot, but there is no substitute for the new 911, especially the GT3 with its rear wheel steering system.

Plain and simple, no car exits a tight bend better than a 911. The engine weight over the rear wheels gives it so much more traction compared to any other sportscar. Couple that to 4WD and it is unbeatable.

Both factors also help straight line acceleration. My V-Box recorded 0-60mph in 2.6 sec and 0-100mph in 6.9 sec times in three out of six runs for a mildly tweaked 630hp 997 Turbo PDK, Sport Chrono Package in 32 degree C ambient temp, high humidity in Florida.

What beats that? The million quid Bugatti Veyron, and then only by a sliver.

You can keep all the flashy, unreliable Italian junk!

... and you can do your shopping in a 911 as well.
