    Gricing with a Trombone

With an anticipated hour to kill on a local beach and headland (while my wife drank coffee with friends) I took along my 100-400 to capture some compressed views of familiar landscapes.

The beach, Broadsands, is where the Paignton to Dartmouth Steam Railway traverses the cliff and crosses a couple of viaducts and I was able to get these two unusual views from Elberry Headland. Both uncropped 400mm and handheld. Note to self: take a tripod next time if I want them sharp.

75014 Braveheart crossing the viaduct over the northern path to the beach 815 mts distant. I had to run to get into position and wasn't ideally placed hence the untidy composition:

75014 Braveheart crossing the main road to the beach (but several degrees further towards the sun so not the best exposure) 785 mts distant:

Two well captured shots John. I think both do justice in their own way. In the first one I think I may have just brought the roof top chimney and tree tops into the frame.

Or you could have increased the ISO...

        Interesting viewpoint, definitely worth revisiting.

          Thanks folks

Yes, that first one is a bit clumsy at the top but, in mitigation, it was a quick grab following a sprint to get into position and it was cropped a bit by levelling.

A long lens certainly gives a different viewpoint

          Cheers,
          John

Nothing to apologise for there John - 2 good images and by the sounds of it a whole new genre opening up for you!

                Thanks Colin and John

Sadly, as I'm currently nursing an allotment-inflicted back injury it may be a while before the big white trombone gets another outing to explore the new genre - indeed, even my tiny G5X ii makes me wince

                Cheers,
                John
