HST photos from 1982 and 2023

I took both of these photos in the same place approaching Totnes station. You can see what the difference in the background looks now.

    1st photo shows HST 43191 in 1982.

    The 2nd photo shows HST 43007 + 43184 on 20th August 2023.

41 years ago I took the first photo, I was 14 then and at school.

I had a Canon camera back then but now I can’t remember which one it was.

Interesting….in this shot new technology include lights have replaced the traditional signal , the house has solar panels/ or skylights, and there are advance warning system grids on the rails… all nice new tech but lack of weeds and ivy control by the wall….a commentary on the state of the nation I think.

A couple of great shots, Colin

It's really sad to see HSTs ending their long and sterling service in the UK (although some will live on overseas). I know we all like new, shiny things that bring increased reliability and comfort but the IETs don't provide either

In their day HSTs were so common (and derided for this and for not being 'proper' loco-hauled traction) that I have relatively few photographs of them with those only snapped while waiting for something more interesting to pass and only started purposely capturing them again recently after the run down had started. Note to self: start photographing the Class 66s!

          Cheers,
          John
